Xela (aka Quezaltenango)

Most of our two weeks was spent in Xela, the second-largest city in Guatemala. School ran Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm with a thirty-minute break at 10:30 am. Afternoons and weekends featured what I would call a "fluid" schedule of events that sometimes happened, sometimes didn't. In reality, we usually had some homework to do and most afternoons we walked a mile south down to the center of town to find a cafe to study, or to shop for books or clothes or food or whatever.

Xela is a nice town with no outstanding tourist "must-see" sites, but lots of streets to wander around. Below are some pictures from the streets of Xela, along with some photos from a soccer game, our forray into the hills on the southern end of town, and a tour of the massive cemetery.
