| Xela The stadium was somewhat smaller and more subdued than I expected. Xelaju MC was the reigning champion of the Guatemalan league but they sure didn't look it. The play was less than silky, something that the rain slicked grass and rough surface didn't help. Moments of pretty passing were rare but teeth-rattling tackles were quite common. Xelaju MC ran out 2-1 victors, but the crowd never really got going. Later, I was told that the night games are never as rowdy as the daytime ones and this proved to be true; a midweek, mid-day match (that I didn't know about or probably would have attended) proved to be better attended and much louder. |
