| Xela The path up from the city wound back into the hills and, theoretically, led to the other villages some 8 km distant. The level of poverty spiked immediately as you got of town and into the hills and we witnessed the sad sight of a pair of children, probably eight and six years old respectively, carrying huge bundles of wood on their backs. If families can't afford schooling, it's common for their children to be put to work. |
