| Xela There's a lot of history in this graveyard, including this monument. Back in the late 1830's, Xela seceeded from Guatemala to become the capital of Los Altos, a sovereign nation along with some other highland territories of Central America. Alas, it didn't last long as Guatemala put down the revolt and brought Xela back into the fold. There is a strong independent streak amongst the people of Xela still, however, and there isn't much love lost between their city and the capital. |
