Barcelos & Braga

From Porto we headed north via rental car. The coastal areas were pretty without being spectacular and the dry climate of Porto quickly gave way to greener, damper scenery much like the Pacific Northwest in the U.S.

We hit rain in Viana do Castelo and wound our way back down to Barcelos, which is just northwest of Braga. We arranged it so we'd be arriving in Barcelos on a Wednesday night so we could go to their enormous Thursday market.

Braga is allegedly Portugal's most religious city. We went to the Bom Jesus, which is an impressive sanctuary situated on a hilltop just outside the city. We also wandered their town center before heading north to Gerês.
