Much like Seattle, when the rain started in earnest (you can't really tell but I'm standing in a fine mist in the photo) all the little shops and cafe's quickly filled up with people buying coffees and pastries. Who were we to refuse? We followed suit just after taking this shot. Vila Nova de Cerveira, which is the name of this town, is situated on the river serving as the border with Spain. We were at a stop sign near a long line of cars waiting to get on the ferry when we had Near Accident #1, as a guy driving way too fast for conditions came fishtailing around the corner and nearly hit us. Luckily he missed by a few feet but we had gotten a first-hand demonstration of Portugal's drivers, the worst in Europe according to accident statistics.
