Gerês and Douro River

For the next couple days the driving began in earnest
. The distances driven weren't necessarily that far but the vast majority of miles were on twisting, turning, winding mountain roads that had far more traffic on them than we expected.

We spent two nights in Gerês and toured the Peneda-Gerês National Park. We wound around and crossed into Spain for about fifteen minutes, entering around the Rio Lima and exiting just south of there. We had great weather for the first day, but the second day of driving was rainy and slick on the way to Pinhão, near the end of Douro River Valley and the port wineries there.
