Lisbon
Lisbon
is Portugal's largest and most cosmopolitan city. It reminded us a lot
of San Francisco since it's quite hilly and right on the water. Lisbon's
old town is separated into three different neighborhoods: the Baixa/Chiado,
the Bairro Alto, and the Alfama. Most of the pictures below are in these
three neighborhoods, except for our side trip to Belém and the
Monument to Discoveries, which was about a fifteen minute trolley ride.
Most
of Lisbon has been rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake knocked down much
of the older buildings. Not surprisingly, the old narrow labyrinth streets
were the most fun to stroll which were located at the highest point of
the city. We took a trolley up the hill, explored the castle, and then
wandered down through the oldest neighborhood.
