The exhausted bull eventually is too weak to stand and the matador comes in to administer the final blow. Even an expertly done fight where the matador dispatches the bull cleanly would be difficult to watch. Watching a poor matador botch the job and prolong the animal's suffering was worse. The matador received more jeers and whistles than applause at the fight's conclusion.
