Part 2 - San Francisco to Las Vegas

As planned, we spent the night in San Francisco with Aaron, then moved on the next morning. The weather report looked pretty good for Yosemite National Park so we decided to head out to the mountains. We hedged our bet, though, by renting a cabin in advance rather than risking staying outside. Overnight lows were in the 30's and, coupled with possible rain, we figured we'd be big losers if bad weather rolled in. Look at the pictures for the full story.

After Yosemite we went south to Fresno as Tioga Pass, the only way to get across the Sierra Nevada mountain range from Yosemite, was closed. We drove through Bakersfield and then chose to head north at Mojave (the city, not the desert.) We entered Death Valley National Park at Panamint Springs on the west side of the park. We had very interesting view as we drove into the park as we could see the backside of Sequoia-King's Canyon National Park to the west (green, lush, and snow-covered) and Death Valley National Park to the east (brown, dry and desolate.) We spent the day in Death Valley and then made it, safe and sound, to Las Vegas where we'll relax for the rest of the week.
