Part 3 - Santa Fe to Denver We got out of New Mexico in plenty of time to stop in for a few hours at the Great Sand Dunes National Monument and Preserve (and Park, sort of.) The higher dunes peak out at 8600 ft. and are an amazing array of patterns and shades, all providing a stunning foreground to the Sangre del Cristo mountain range. The hiking was exhausting (for Trent at least - Amy opted to read in the parking lot!) but worthwhile. We drove to Pueblo, CO for the night. From here we continue on I-25 to Colorado Springs to visit a high school friend of Amy's and then on to Denver and another stop to see Lynette, a maid of honor at our wedding. After spending a day in Denver catching up we'll head out on the last leg of our journey. |
