Brother Todd and wife Stephanie are stateside for a week or so and stopped for the night in Madison en route from Chicago to Minneapolis. To celebrate, Amy decided to host Spanish night in honor of us last being together in Bilbao and San Sebastián.
As the below pictures show, we enjoyed: sangria; three types of cheeses (from left to right we have zamorano, the queso de cabrales we found in the north, and your classic manchego) along with the quince paste we also encountered in Cantabria; a skewer of olive, sweet onion, pepper, and anchovy rolled around capers (which might look familiar); a classic tortilla española (egg, onion, potato); and of course Amy’s famous paella. Bigger pictures if you click on ‘em.
Good? Um, yes.

In a quick side note, the LA Galaxy released one-time Portugal defender Abel Xavier, which for my money has got to be one of the least surprising pieces of news in league history. I thought signing Xavier was a suspicious choice to begin with, given his relative high salary of $156K (by MLS standards) and the fact that he’s been an amazingly average defender for the last six years. And the fact that he’s a world-class nutter.
