Fist, Meet Face

I finally got around to watching the Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin from this past Saturday, and my oh my. Silva is the current middleweight champion and jumped up 20 lbs. to light heavyweight in this fight, but I thought he would still handle James Irvin. It all came down to a single punch, really. FF the below video to the start of the fight and wait, oh, about a minute.

Silva is amazing. I recently watched a rerun of his second fight against Rich Franklin and all I can say is that the man packs a wallop with that thin frame. Franklin was doing okay, and then in a flash he really wasn’t. A couple blows to the body wiped him out and then Silva went on autopilot with those knees and strikes. He throws so hard and so accurately. Watch the above video again and note how he measures that one punch perfectly. As Mike Goldberg so eloquently puts it, “His precision is so…precise.”

I watched that fight and couldn’t believe how quick this guy got nailed. So much for all the pre-fight hype!

BTW, I found this sight and thought you might be able to incorporate into your site? Would be interesting to see rather than required to know type stuff!

So is Mandy Moore becoming the next Rachel Ray? (grin)

Pop, I do get those stats with a free program that comes with the website but I don’t think it’s very accurate. I’ll have to check that out.

Phil, I thought that was weird too. I would pay to see Mandy Moore and Rachel Ray cagefight though. Especially if it was a death match.

SIlva is a freak of nature. It seems nobody can compete with him. It’s be interesting if he were to fight someone else in this weight class but higher caliber.

Yeah, I didn’t think Irvin matched up well—obviously! He’s more of an out-and-out brawler and not too technical, but it would definitely be interesting to see Anderson Silva versus Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, or Rampage Jackson to see how he’d handle some of the bigger boys in the division.
