Erm. Hel-lo Tottenham Hotspur, how do you do? Please don’t crush me with goals. On a more somber, note I’m sure this will be filed under the category of “Peaking too soon” but this sure as hell beats 2 points from 8 games like last year.

Joe Sherry, sometime reviewer for Fantasy magazine and all-time reviewer for Adventures in Reading, calls John Joseph Adam’s Federations an “outstanding anthology” and says that in addition to the strong reprints, the original stories stand up well, mentioning that “Eskhara… is another solid one.”

I sent my final edits to The Best Horror of the Year #1 the other night. Still can’t believe I’m writing that.

And finally, the slightest hint of optimism. As I have kvetched about at length, I tend not to get anything but straight form rejections from literary magazines and this makes me glum. My story “Rogerio’s Library” is out hunting and I got a pink slip today from The Missouri Review along with a handwritten note to please try them again. Better than a rejection form without a handwritten comment, but really not all that much better…

Getting materials ready for the classes that I’m teaching is driving me mad. I more or less planned a 16-week course today, over many stressful hours not at all helped by the technical problems with the new wireless printer. Turns out the wireless G router can’t route the data fast enough to the printer, causing it to stall out and ultimately dropping the wireless connection to all devices. Not what I signed up for.

Anyway, last night I lost sleep over how I was going to get things under control for these classes. After an exhausting day, I am over the hump. Still a lot of work to do and copies to be made, but I bought myself a lot of time after today’s hard work. This is good.

When you look at Tottenham, you think they should be able to score with Defoe, Keane, Crouch, Modric, et al. You may not think (I have not) that they could keep goals out. So far so good to have shipped only four goals in five games–and really, who counts goals against in games that you win by four?

You’d also think Citeh could score with Adebayor, Tevez, Robinho, Bellamy, Ireland, etc. yet they’ve only managed a few goals, and also came into the season with major questions at the back but haven’t let any in.

Spurs have a rich tradition of winning and losing games 3-2, 4-3, 5-4, 6-1, etc. It’s part of what makes me love them, but these lopsided wins make me nervous.
